How to Connect the Hot Tub Electrical for the Aquavoss Model AV-2Updated 8 days ago

Hot Tub Side Electrical

The hot tub side of the AV-2 runs on a 220v-240V single phase hard-wired electrical connection. As such, the electrical hook up must be done by a licensed electrician. The electrician will run wiring from your main electrical panel to a sub-panel that will need to be located a minimum of 5 feet away from the hot tub. Thereafter, they will run wiring from the sub-panel directly into the hot tub control system.

Refer to the below video as well as the instructions that follow for guidance on how the electrician will install the hot tub:

Refer to this diagram for the proper wiring of the hot tub connection:

As shown above, run conduit and wiring from the main electrical breaker to a GFCI Breaker Box that is set up a minimum of 5 feet from the hot tub (a GFCI breaker box is not included with the AV-2). Connect only to a circuit protected by a Class A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or Residual Current Device (RCD) mounted at least 5’ (1.52M) from the water line of the spa/hot tub and in line of sight from the equipment compartment. Run conduit and wiring from the breaker box into the Balboa Control System on the hot tub side.

Refer to image below to understand the location of the Balboa Control System and the conduit point of entry:

The hot tub must be wired with a 50 amp, single phase, 220 volt, four-wire service (two lines, one neutral, one ground). The grounding conductor must not be less than #10 AWG. Use minimum 8awg copper conductors only (dependent on wire type used).

A wiring diagram is located on the back side of the Balboa Control System for your technician to reference. The diagram is also shown below:

The Aquavoss AV-2 is equipped with a power indicator which also has a diagnostic function. It will begin blinking if the heater high-limit thermostat has tripped. If the power indicator light is blinking, follow the instructions in the Troubleshooting section to identify and correct the cause.

Once the spa has been filled with water, it is important to test all of the circuit breakers. Push the “TEST” button on each GFCI breaker and observe it click OFF. Wait for 30 seconds, then push the breaker switch to the OFF position and then to the ON position. If any of the GFCI breakers fail to operate in this manner, there may be an electrical malfunction, and it is important to turn off all circuits and not use the spa until the problem has been corrected by an authorized service agent.

It is also important to note that removing or bypassing any GFCI breaker will result in an unsafe spa and will void the AV-2’s warranty.
